The first 1977 edition of the Random House Encyclopedia set an ambitious goal of systemizing and presenting all of basic human knowledge in just under 3,000 pages. The edition is divided into two sections: Colorpedia, which is made of lengthy articles and Alphapedia, which has short alphabetically arranged ones.
