The second festival of the Design Academy at A/D/O on Saturday, May 13, promised to investigate designers’ power to transform our world through the most fundamental human interfaces: texture and scent, sound and vision. Intrigued and curious, I stopped by to experience it firsthand.

The common room

The day’s program schedule
A virtual reality experience by New Reality — on what it means to be a tree
New York Times perfume critic Chandler Burr in a mind-expanding hands-on lecture about the power of scent
Mr. Burr inspired the audience to associate, not label scents: “What do you smell? Is it post-modernism, dada or romanticism?”
A neat festival pack (kudos for the wi-fi information on the badge)

I've been exploring cities and neighborhoods for as long as I remember myself, documenting my observations and discoveries with photographs and in my journals. This mindful wondering has inspired and greatly fueled my design and research work, parts of which I'm sharing in this journal. Drop me a line at editor@arthurious.com
