Every year, I mark the Ginger Beer Season with a special star on the calendar. For me, the season lasts for almost twelve months (along with the Season for Rosé and Doughnuts), for the fizz starts popping as the days grow warmer and longer, studio hours stretch to infinity, and my mouth turns dry like the palms of an experienced rock-star. The difference between ginger beer and ginger ale is no less amusing. While the former is brewed like normal beer — through fermentation of bacteria — the latter is primarily sugary water with some stuff they sometimes add in bubble gum. The problem is, one is not necessarily more delicious than the other.

This season, I challenged myself to peruse the shelves of all the bearded-owner shops I could find in and around Brooklyn in search for the best ginger drink one could enjoy on a bright day.
