This July, instead of vacationing far, I picked to stay in Bedstuy, an up-and-coming neighborhood in Brooklyn to experience it and its surrounding first-hand. Here’re some of the things I captured this week.

Many of the brownstones and townhouses in Bedstuy have been restored, but some are still hanging
A vintage Dodge Dart, one of the many beautifully kept cars in the neighborhood
Brain Food in Bedstuy is a go-to place for yummy and healthy sandwiches and salad bowls
A quaint coffee shop and general goods store, Urban Vintage is a great place to focus with a laptop or a book
A personal studio of a local interior decorator
Golda is a fresh and airy coffee shop with an interesting collection of coffee table books
Previously and Armory, this massive building on Bedford Ave is now used as a homeless shelter
Jewel City Books, a wellness bookstore adjacent to a yoga studio
Windsor Place Antiques is a quirky and culture antiques store with hours-worth of maps, vintage books, ephemera and more
A handmade plywood sign for a laundry storefront
A YMCA based in a former armory
Newly restored Kings Theatre
BERG’N —a spun off from a Smorgasburg stand, this patio eatery behind the bar serves playful American dishes

A local woodworking studio wrapping up the day
