If May is synonymous with Design Week in New York, then April is all about Antique Books. Two of the biggest antique book shows happen on the same weekend: New York International Antiquarian Book Fair at the Park Avenue Armory and Manhattan Rare Book & Fine Press Fair at a nearby church. Both events draw thousands of dealers and book lovers who come to browse or gaze at rare, unique, and hard-to-find books, publications, and printed material.
I visited both shows and walked every booth to bring you my favorites.
1. New York International Antiquarian Book Fair
The New York International Antiquarian Book Fair, one of the oldest book events in New York City, is celebrating its 65th year. This international fair brings together some of the most prominent book dealers and gallery owners from Europe, Asia, and the US, all gathered under one roof in the magnificent historic Park Avenue Armory.
2. Manhattan Rare Book & Fine Press Fair
Just a short walk from Park Avenue Armory, another show is in full swing at St. Vincent Ferrer, a nearby church. The event focuses on smaller dealers from around the US, while another large room is dedicated to contemporary printers and fine book makers.
