Many cities and towns I’ve traveled to around the US have their own craft breweries – some smaller and some larger but all with their unique approach to brew science and to packaging design. When Half Time, an online beer discovery shop opened a physical location North of NYC in Mamaroneck, I headed to explore the selection and pick some of the most unique brews I’ve never seen before.
1. Country Kind of Silence
Resident Culture Brewing Co. (NC)
Lager (4.7% ABV)

German style Helles Lager. Light, crisp & sweet malt flavor. $8.99
2. Anytime Sunshine: Grapefruit
Blue Point Brewing (NY)
Wheat ale (4% ABV)

This easy-drinking, enjoyable beer has a unique tartness and citrus notes. It’s brewed with a split of Pilsner malt and wheat for a light body and a touch of creamy character. ($2.99)
3. Synopsis Red Berries
Area Two Experimental Brewing (CT)
Sour ale (6.4% ABV)

An experimental wild, sour ale brewed from the base beer fruited with three different red fruits: red currant, red raspberry, and cranberries. A tart, funky experiment. ($6.49)
4. Surf Casting
Oxbow Brewing Company (ME)

Surfcasting is a gently salted grisette brewed with American hops, wheat, and fresh limes. ($4.49)
5. Palmovka 12 Degrees
Schilling Beer Co. (NH)

Brewed with all Czech-sourced ingredients, adhering to a traditional Czech mash and decoction schedule. Notes of baked bread dominate. Rounded bitterness with a silky mouthfeel. ($5.99)
6. Tenement
Torch & Crown (NYC)
Pilsner (4.9% ABV)

A fresh pilsner malt aroma and delicate saaz dry hop give this beer a traditional character with a little edge. ($4.99)
7. Ghost Beer
Dutchess Ales (NY)
Pale Ale (4.8% ABV)

G.B. is a ‘hybrid’ pale ale made to suit both our English and West Coast sensibilities. Brewed with a variety of US and UK malts and hops. Ghost Beer also features a hybrid yeast that allows this bright, zesty pale ale to drink a bit like a refreshing Kölsch.
8. Kernza Pilz
Dogfish Head Brewery (DE)
German Pilsener (5% ABV)

Crisp, refreshing German-style pilsner brewed with organic barley, organic Contessa hops, and Kernza – a revolutionary new long-rooted perennial grain developed by The Land Institute. Bursting with floral notes, the brew is bright and snappy, with a subtle spiciness. ($3.99)
9. Zoe
Maine Beer Company (ME)
Amber Ale (7.2% ABV)

Aromas of pine and raisin. Notes of citrus, black current, cherry, and fig with a malty backbone of toasted bread, dark chocolate, and caramel.
