I find it amusing that in New York one can find everything except for the simplest and most unassuming things. Say, a soft-touch high-quality white t-shirt for everyday or an odorless shampoo or an elegant scented candle.
You can sense a buzz of celebration in my head when I saw Upstate Stock (2 Berry Street). Once a grungy warehouse on the border of Greenpoint and Williamsburg — it’s turned into a low-key and well-curated store for menswear basics, apothecary combined with a coffee bar that serves neither La Colombe nor Blue Bottle — but Toronto-based Cut Coffee. I stopped by for a quick tour (and, yes, a white tee).
