At ArtYard, Seven Artists Transform Nature

During my last visit to Frenchtown, NJ, I grew biased to the town’s creative energy and to how it casually wears its ability to create a unique cultural imprint. When I was invited to a new exhibit at ArtYard, a new art and design hub in Frenchtown, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to visit the town again.

Tokyo-born artists Naoko Ito employs glass containers and severed tree branches which convey the illusion of plant material growing through glass.
Artist Bruce Gardner specializes in the Japanese art of Hikaru Dorodango: balls crafted from soil molded by hand into perfect spheres, dried, and then polished to create a sheen.

This Sculpture by Margaret Parish is made of rusted metal and is pated flat but it becomes three-dimensional when unfolded. From far away the construction seems like a drawing.
The Museum of Natural Curiosities

Visitors are encouraged to wear caps made of branches, moss, leaves, and other natural materials to capture at the conveniently located photobooth

Sand from fifty beaches

(in)animate is running until December 31, 2017.
