As the year comes to an end, I do my usual stroll through Madison Avenue and the surrounding area to capture and document some of my favorite window displays. I think that a shop display is a wonderful stage for a visual storyteller to practice many creative skills in a limited space. This year, while some brands went on with the holiday theme, most would often create a fairy tale of their own, only remotely related to the holidays. Here are some of my favorites this year.

Dolce & Gabbana Kids set in a toy-like fairy tale
Ralph Lauren created a whole world set in the snowy woods

Balenciaga displayed little interest in the holidays
Alien-like creatures at Prada

A whimsical fairy tale in the woods at Bonpoint

Chanel window featuring cloud-like shapes
Hermès mind-boggling story was very likely created under lots of substance

Marc Jacobs window featuring the iconic 26 looks that made him famous in 1990s

Bottega Veneta set up a deer that changes shape as you walk by

Nativity theme explored at Brunello Cucinelli
