Day Tripping for Antiques With Mitsubishi

Day Tripping for Antiques With Mitsubishi

One of my favorite things to do on a Sunday is to take a day trip to some of my favorite antique destinations West of New York City. A day trip allows me to recharge from a busy week in the city and allows me to discover something new and inspiring. This week, to help me get around, I was lucky to test drive the new Mitsubishi Outlander.

With the places I’d like to visit mapped out, I set off for the journey

11 am: Lunch

When I have no time to grab a bite on the way out of the city, I usually stop by at Vince Lombardi Rest Stop for a quick bite from Pret-a-Manger

One of my favorite features in the new Outlander is the top-down back-up camera

12 pm: Andover Antiques Village

The first stop on my journey is Andover Antiques Village in Andover, NJ. It’s a lovely small village, filled with antique shops and outdoor shops.

At Grey Barn Antiques in Andover, NJ you’ll find lots of older tools and curiosities
Great Andover Antique Village is an outdoor center mostly for garden sculptures and larger pieces
At Made in the Shade shop, you’ll find rare French decorative objects and a large selection of vintage lamps

2 pm: Lafayette Mills Outdoor Vintage Market

I headed deeper into New Jersey to Lafayette, home of Lafayette Mills Antiques. This Memorial Day in addition to the main building, dozens of vendors set up temporary displays outdoors for the Outdoor Vintage Market.

I was excited to find an original lithograph for Raoul Dufy by master printer Fernand Mourlot at Lafayette Mills Antiques
Upstairs at Lafayette Mills Antiques you’ll find one of the most expansive collections of rare and original signage, advertising and vintage packaging

4 pm: A Visit to a Farm

Searching for good antiques is great fun but it does take quite a bit of energy. To fill up I drove to The Marketplace at Wesselhof Farms, a quaint farm / grocery store and restaurant with beautiful views.

5 pm: Hike in the Park

At the end of the day I like to take a breather and find a park to hike nearby. I was pleasantly delighted to bump into Sparta Glen Park, just South of Lafayette. There, a few peaceful hiking trails, a strea

The automatic tailgate in the Outlander is so handy and so easy to get used to
I photograph every vintage item I find to add it to my (very extensive) design research catalog
Another great day on the road — heading back home
