Exploring Cartoons of Oscar Cesare Through a Rare Book

At one of my latest book hunts, I discovered a very rare limited edition copy of Oscar Cesare’s best 100 cartoons. Cesare, a Swedish-born American editorial caricaturist was mostly known for his grease crayon technique and for opposing World War I through his work.

One Hundred Cartoons by Cesare, a book of the artist’s most prominent cartoons, was first published in 1916 — and this handsome copy I found is that very first edition
Not only it is the first edition, it’s also one of only 105 copies of the book printed and it is hand-signed with ink by Cesare himself
Each cartoon in the book sits on a separate page. All cartoons are listed on the index page

This rare copy of One Hundred Cartoons by Cesare is now available on my Etsy shop (probably not for long) — you can order it here.
