For the Craziest New Year’s Celebration, Come to Philadelphia

Ever felt bored on a New Years Day? I was too until I found out about Mummers Parade in Philadelphia. Started in 1901, it is the longest-running continuous folk parade in the United States and it is held every year on January 1st.

Local clubs, called “New Years Brigades”, compete in one of five categories and prepare elaborate costumes, performance routines, and movable scenery, which take months to complete.

The parade marches along a long stretch on Broad Street
Along with having fun, parade watchers drink lots of beer, hard seltzers and Champagne
At the end of the day, the festivities and decorations are wrapped up in trucks
